Snapchat introduces realistic new AR filters for iPhone X

Snapchat just added three super-realistic filters exclusively for the iPhone X. Here’s how these new filters look like and how you can use them.

iPhone X-exclusive AR lenses

Snapchat has finally introduced three new lenses that Apple demonstrated back in 2017. These new lenses rely on over 50 facial movements for increased accuracy.

These new AR lenses include a golden eye cover, Mardi-Gras mask, and the Mexican “Day of the Dead” skull mask.

They also blur the background similar to the “bokeh effect” to focus more on the user’s face.

Here’s how these filters look like.

If you own an iPhone X, you can access these new filters like you normally do. You must keep your face close to the camera or else the iPhone X camera will not be able to apply the filter properly.

For those of you who like to wear the tin foil hat, Apple’s privacy policy is very strict and forbids apps to use your FaceID data. All your data will remain encrypted and stored locally on-device and user information will get transmitted to Snapchat’s servers.

Will these filters work on older devices?

No, these filters utilize iPhone X’s TrueDepth camera system, which is missing from older models such as iPhone 7.

Therefore, these devices will not be able to recreate these filters or lenses with the same accuracy and effect.

Even if a jailbreak tweak ports these filters to older models in the future, they won’t look as good as they do on an iPhone X.

iPhone X

As popular social networks and apps continue to pump out exclusive features for newer models, a device upgrade is imperative. You can go for an iPhone X or, even better, wait for Apple’s next-gen iPhone lineup due for a release in 2018.
