Many users are reporting a camera freeze on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Pretty much every device has its share of problems when it comes out. You can be thankful it’s not exploding.
These new generation devices from Apple were unveiled in September last year. Even they suffer from a serious flaw that renders the Camera useless as you experience random freezes.
When you launch the camera from the lock screen or directly through an app instead of the camera, the image appears blurry picture or you get a black screen. At the same time you can not even press the shutter button, which would create a new image.
Here’s a video of what it looks like.
So far, there’s no permanent solution for this problem. Here are a few fixes you can try.

How to Fix iPhone 7/7 Plus Camera Not Working [BLACK SCREEN]
Fix 1
Reboot your device. This does not just shut down the application but reboots the whole system. Press and hold the Volume down and Home button together until the screen displays the Apple logo. Now camera should function normally. Keep in mind that after some time, the problem may return again.
Fix 2
Close every app that is running by double tapping the Home button including the Camera app. When you have too many apps running, it can cause issues with the Camera.
Fix 3
Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera. If you have any apps that are using the camera, disable them by tapping on them. When you have 3rd party apps that interfere with the camera, it can issues with the Camera.
Fix 4
Update your iPhone 7 and 7 Plus’ firmware to the latest version. This will ensure that any bugs or glitches are fixed.
Fix 5
Use the Reset all Settings option. Don’t use the Erase all Content and Settings option obviously.
Fix 6
Apply a reasonable amount of pressure only around the camera. Afterwards, restart it. This sounds weird but it works for some people. So give it a go.
Fix 7
Perform a restore with iTunes.
It is possible that Apple will fix this issue in the future iterations of iOS firmware. If you are still experiencing issues, it is recommended to get your device replaced by your vendor.
Hello. I have tried everything several times. Apple support says camera(s) must be changed. can you recommend what parts might be defective. My phone is 7 Plus and cameras sometimes work (most of the times does not. is it possible that the ribbons and the light sensor assembly of the front camera causing the issue and changing that part would fix it or also the rear cameras should be replaced. Thank you.
How can I fix if when it freeze and blurry
Thank you SOOO MUCH for your post! I had to replace my iPhone 7plus camera a while ago (after a drop), and was going to do the same when the darn thing stopped working again – this time, no drop!!! Hate apple for their very iffy approach to qualiity.
(FYI, I think you meant to say “press the volume down and SLEEP button vs home button. Maybe this just changed with the latest software update, but pressing vol-down and home just launched Siri).
Again, many thanks for your awesome, $$-saving tips!
You’re welcome, Larkin.
Awesome!!!! Fix 1 worked for me. Apple Customer support team told me that it was an hardware issue after checking my mobile.
That’s great, Amarnath.
