Telegram 4.9.1 for iOS lets you export chats, add exceptions to notifications

WhatsApp competitor Telegram has just released an update that brings a number of useful features to iOS. Check out what’s new and how you use the new features below.

What’s new in Telegram 4.9.1?

Just like its arch-rival WhatsApp, Telegram regularly brings new features to Apple devices via App Store updates. Its latest version, v4.9.1, is now available for download in the App Store and introduces several new features, namely –

  • Export chats – You can now export your chats or conversations from within the app. This allows you to keep all your calls, including the media you have sent, in a different location. For now, this only works with the desktop version of Telegram.
  • New “Exceptions” in Notification settings – Telegram now gives you even more control over the notification that the iOS app sends. Exceptions show you which chats or persons are excluded from the general notification settings. This makes it easier to stop notifications for all contacts, except for a few people, for instance.
  • Improved password hashing algorithm
  • Support for more types of data

To export your chats, open the application, go to the settings and scroll down until you see the “Export Telegram data” button.

Herein you can choose what exactly you want to save, and in which format. For example, to save space, you can choose not to export the bulky video files.
