iPhone 8 and 8 Plus – Features and Technical Specifications

While everyone is going crazy over the new iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus have silently crept under the radar. Here’s all you need to know about these new smartphones.

Tried and tested Design

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus devices stick to the tried and tested design of the iPhone 7. Why fix what’s not broken?

Many of the design features have been carried over verbatim to these new models. However, the back portion is where we can find some new design elements.

The back glass shell is slightly thicker than the one present in older models. As expected, these devices do not come with a headphone jack. The Home button with the integrated fingerprint sensor has been retained. This means TouchID will work exactly like it does on older models.

These smartphones will come in white, black and gold copper colors.

LCD Display

No innovation has been done in this area as these new smartphones continue to use LCD displays. This had been done in order to concentrate all the limelight on the iPhone 8.

Everything from the resolution to the display size remains exactly the same. The iPhone 8 comes with a 4.7-inch display while its bigger counterpart has a 5.5-inch screen.

Powerful Processor and hardware

Power users are always looking to get the most out of their smartphones and hence getting powerful hardware is evident. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus will come with the powerful six-core processor A11 Bionic, the most powerful chip designed by Apple till date.

Just like the iPhone 7, iPhone 8 has 2 GB of RAM while iPhone 8 Plus comes with 3 GB of RAM. As far as the display goes, both these devices have a 4.7 and 5.5-inch LCD display respectively.

The storage capacity also stays the same at 32, 128 and 256 GB.

Camera

The rumors have been proven false in this case as Apple has retained the horizontal orientation. The camera and its features remain exactly the same excepting a few new improvements here and there.

The rear cameras are 12 MP, while the front camera shoots at 7 MP. The sensors have been designed again from the ground up and offer better image clarity and quality. Just like the iPhone 7 plus, the dual camera is exclusively available in the iPhone 8 plus.

Both the smartphones can record videos in 4K resolution up to 60 frames per second. At 1080p resolution, you can go up to 240 frames per second.

Wireless charging

This is probably the only feature that iPhone X and iPhone 8 have in common. iPhone 8 will comes with its own wireless feature that you can use with a wireless charging station.

The wireless technology is based on the Qi standard.

Price and availability

iPhone 8 will can be yours for $699, whereas you can get the plus model from $799. These prices are given for base models only and they will increase once you start going up the storage ladder.

The pre-order will begin from September 15 and delivery will start on September 22.
