iOS 12 beta 8 vs iOS 11.4.1 – Speed and Performance compared

iPhone 5s

We shall begin with the iPhone 5s since it’s the oldest model to receive the update.

When we look at the comparison, the device with the iOS 12 beta 8 boots up very quickly. The device running the new beta boots up 10 seconds earlier. This clearly shows the performance differential between iOS 11 and 12.

The new beta is still far ahead of application launch speeds.

iOS 12 beta 8 is also very fast at camera startup speeds. In short, this time we can say that the new beta version is an overwhelming advantage.

Surprisingly, the old operating system has a better AnTuTu score than iOS 11.4.1.

  • iOS 12 beta 8 AnTuTu score – 10117
  • iOS 11.4.1 AnTuTu score – 11621

iPhone 6

iOS 12 beta 8 and iOS 11.4.1 on iPhone 6 have interesting results in speed comparison. When we look at the immediate loading speeds, the new beta leads the way.

iOS 12 beta 8 is slightly ahead and performance looks a bit better. Having said that, the difference is not substantial. It can be considered normal since beta 8 update mainly focuses on fixing bugs and glitches.

Again, iOS 11.4.1 boasts of a better AnTuTu score as compared to its successor.

  • iOS 12 beta 8 AnTuTu score – 13196 points
  • iOS 11.4.1 AnTuTu score – 14612

iPhone 6s

While there is a small difference in the boot-up speeds, the new beta version is opening later.

We see that the iOS 12 beta 8 starts up a few seconds later. As far as app launch speeds go, both operating systems offer similar performance.

Unlike older devices, we do not see any definite difference between them. It is, nevertheless, annoying that the new beta version is left behind in some cases.

Even if there is no significant difference in core scores, iOS 11.4.1 version is has a better single-core score.

  • iOS 12 beta 8 AnTuTu score – 2524 points
  • iOS 11.4.1 AnTuTu score – 2559

iPhone 7

Not much difference was noticed while using the iPhone 7. When it comes to using stock iOS apps and the camera, Beta 8 version is a little further ahead.

Beta 8 is also ahead in the AnTuTu scores with a score of 3545 points.

  • iOS 12 beta 8 AnTuTu score – 3545
  • iOS 11.4.1 AnTuTu score – 3516

Wrapping up

As you can see, iOS 12 performs much better across all devices. Although it’s a beta software, iOS 12 outperforms its predecessor on more occasions than one.

Significant differences can be seen, for example, when the phone is switched on. On the whole, the system feels much more smooth and responsive and the launch speed of some applications is considerably higher.

The beta 8 build, however, does not make as much of a difference as the beta 5 and beta 4 builds.
