Apple has just released a new version, iOS 11.2.2 for older iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models. You can download it using the IPSW links below.
What’s new in iOS 11.2.2?
iOS 11.2.2 focuses on fixing the Spectre vulnerability that took everyone by storm in the past few days. It implements fixes in Safari and WebKit patch Spectre (CVE-2017-5753/CVE-2017-5715) vulnerabilities.
Remember, this update doesn’t fully close the loophole. It just stops Spectre-based exploits from hooking into Safari web browser.
This means all other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome are still exposed.
If you are on a lower version, you can download and install SpectrePatch on your device to stay safe and secure.
Unlike other updates, there are no bug fixes or performance improvements in this build. It is purely a security update.
You can download the IPSW firmware file for your device and then update using iTunes.

Should I update?
- If you are not interested in a jailbreak, I would recommend updating as soon as possible. This vulnerability is extremely widespread and can lead to a data compromise.
- If you are staying on lower versions of iOS 11, stay where ever you are by all means. A new fix will definitely come soon for Spectre and Meltdown loopholes.
We already have a fix for older versions and devices so there’s no good reason as to why we won’t have one for newer versions.
What are you going to do – leave jailbreak for a more secure device or stay on older versions only? Leave your comments below.
