How to get Instagram’s Focus mode on older devices

Instagram recently rolled out its very own Portrait mode called Focus. Here’s how you can enable this mode on unsupported devices like iPhone 6.

Why doesn’t Focus mode work on older devices?

As you already know, Portrait mode is reserved exclusively for newer devices such as iPhone 7 plus, iPhone X, etc.

Instagram’s latest update brings in-app Focus mode to older devices such as iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s plus, and iPhone SE.

However, the developers have decided, for some reason, not to add the Focus mode to older models like as iPhone 6s and iPhone 5s.

Whatever the reason may be, a quick hack by DepthStriderV will let you port this amazing feature to all unsupported iPhone models.

  • Important – Remember, this hack, just like other hacks, requires a jailbreak and Cydia installer.

Requirements

  • iPhone 6 or below
  • iOS 11-11.1.2
  • Electra jailbreak
  • Cydia

Enabling Instagram Focus mode on unsupported devices

Step 1 Force exit the Instagram app from the App Switcher if it’s running on your iPhone. Since we will be modifying the app, closing it will ensure you don’t experience any issues in the future.

Step 2 Open Cydia and search for “Anywhere”.

Step 3 Open the first result that comes up in the search tab.

Step 4 Tap Install to install this jailbreak application on your iPhone. Unfortunately, this app is available only in the Chinese language.

However, navigating through this app is not an issue due to the clear and concise instructions given below.

Step 5 Launch the newly added application with Chinese characters from your home screen. If you are having trouble finding this app, run “uicache” command in a terminal emulator.

Step 6 Go to the second tab and select the fourth option.

Step 7 Select a supported device such as iPhone 7 plus or iPhone 8. Be sure to steer clear of iPhone X as this can lead to user interface glitches.

Step 8 Scroll down and select Instagram from the list.

Step 9 Once you select Instagram, tap on the button present in the top-right corner to start the spoofing process. Once it spoofs the app, it will display the following popup.

Step 10 Access camera and select “Focus” mode, which is sandwiched between the Boomerang and Superzoom modes.
