Ian Beer Releases Sandbox Escape Exploit for iOS 10-10.3.2

Eminent Google Project Zero hacker, Ian Beer, has successfully exploited a security vulnerability in iOS 10. Here’s what you need to know about it.

Ian Beer Exploits a Sandbox vulnerability

Ian Beer exploit is based on the CVE-2017-7047 security vulnerability. It allows the developers to escape the Sandbox and access the filesystem.

However, this bug is present only in iOS 10.0 to 10.3.2 firmware versions. Apple fixed this security vulnerability in iOS 10.3.3 and macOS Sierra 10.12.6 updates.

This is advanced-level stuff and is meant only for serious security researchers, not the average user. If you still want the download link, I can send it your way.

It is a userspace exploit that grants privilege escalation ability to hackers. This means Beer’s exploit alone is not enough to create a jailbreak. We still need other low-level exploits for the kernel and the security system.

Nevertheless, this is a huge development and might lead to a jailbreak in the near future.

When is a jailbreak coming?

Ian Beer is the developer behind the exploits present in Yalu jailbreak. Big props to the hacker for again contributing to the jailbreak community.

With that said, there’s no release date or ETA for an upcoming jailbreak as of yet.

We also have Adam Donenfeld working independently on powerful kernel-level exploits for iOS 10.3.x. Hopefully, other developers will come forward and release a proper jailbreak tool for iOS 10.3.2.
