GIFRoll – GIF Images in the Stock Photos App

Another day, another tweak. This new tweak brings a highly requested feature to iOS 10. Let’s find out how it works.

How GIFRoll Works

Despite GIF’s increasing popularity, stock iOS 10 doesn’t allow to open and view GIFs natively. Thankfully, Apple has included support for GIFs in Camera Roll in iOS 11.

However, not everyone has updated to iOS 11 because they don’t want to lose their jailbreak. That is where GIFRoll comes in.

GIFRoll Cydia tweak allows you to view GIF images directly from the stock Photos app. It is developed by newcomer iSklikas and this is his very first tweak.

Here’s a video demonstration of this amazing tweak.

This concept is not new and has already been realized by jailbreak tweaks such as GIFViewer and Giffy, which is now obsolete. This new tweak works exactly like GIFViewer, except that it doesn’t lag as much.

GIFRoll is completely free to use and open source. Any developer can edit and improve upon its stock features.

One feature that I would like to have added to this tweak is the ability to “tag” the images. This will allow the users to sift through all the images quickly and find the one they are looking for.

If you like your GIFs a bit too much, this tweak is a must-have. Highly recommended.

Since the feature is not stock, you might experience some lag. The developer will most likely push a fix for this in a few days.

GIFRoll is available for download on ModMyi Cydia repo for free. It is compatible with iOS 10.
