Fortnite players are getting their accounts hacked

Fortnite has been busting the charts and raking in that in-app moolah. However, things haven’t been hunky-dory for a lot of Fortnite players as a lot of them have got their accounts hacked and details stolen.

Fortnite accounts are getting hacked

Several Fortnite players are reporting fraudulent transactions after installing Fortnite. Some Reddit users are also reporting frequent attempts by hackers to brute-force their password.

Your Epic Games account has been locked due to multiple invalid login attempts.

A lot of naive users tend to give out their account details to anyone in exchange for a few game upgrades. Some of them also gave out their username and password to strangers just to access the new Twitch Prime skin.

Apart from that, hackers might also be using hack user details that were actually leaked in a previous dump.

Epic Games’ poor security measures are to blame

Fortnite account hack fiasco is a direct product of terrible security practices of users. But don’t think that Epic Games is not at fault here; their practices are dubious, to say the least.

Their login page has no captcha protection, which is absolutely bonkers in this day and age.

Moreover, their backend system automatically saves PayPal information without the user’s permission.

Therefore, once a hacker hacks your account, he will also get access to some of your PayPal details.

How can you stay safe?

Massive dumps of email and other sensitive data by hackers proves that nothing is totally secure online.

With that being said, there are a few security measures that every Fortnite player can take to prevent his or her account from hackers.

  • First and foremost, you must use a strong password.
  • Remove all PayPal data from your Epic Games account.
  • Do not give out your details to any website claiming to send you free V-Bucks.
  • Enable 2FA (Two-factor authentication) for enhanced security.
  • Also, Epic games must squash the free friend code upgrades as soon as possible. This feature only incentivizes hackers and unruly users to hijack accounts.
