LiberTV tvOS 10 Jailbreak [Troubleshooting FAQ]

Q. Where can I download this jailbreak tool?

A. You can download it from here.

Q. How can I use the LiberTV jailbreak for tvOS 10?

A. Follow the complete tvOS 10 jailbreak tutorial here.

Q. Is Apple TV 4 jailbreak tethered or untethered?

A. It is semi-untethered just like Yalu jailbreak for iOS 10. When you reboot your Apple TV 4, you will lose the jailbreak. You will need to use LiberTV application again.

If you don’t reboot Apple TV 4, the jailbreak will work indefinitely.

Q. Why doesn’t LiberTV support tvOS 10.1.1?

A. It can not be used for tvOS 10.1.1 because it patches the CVE-2017-2370 exploit used by this jailbreak.

Q. Can I downgrade tvOS 10.1.1 to 10.1?

A. No, a downgrade from tvOS 10.1.1 to 10.1 is not possible.

Q. Is LiberTV compatible with tvOS 9?

A. Yes, it is compatible with tvOS 9.1. However, a different exploit is used in this case.

Q. Is Apple TV 3 compatible with this tool?

A. No, Apple TV 3 is not compatible.

Q. LiberTV jailbreak is not working after a few tries. What am I doing wrong?

A. Usually, it will work after 5-6 tries. If you have done everything correctly, you will get something like this.

Q. What does this jailbreak do?

A. LiberTV jailbreak is currently geared towards developers and advanced users. It patches Apple TV 4’s kernel. This will allow you to execute unsigned code and inject libraries in any native process.

Q. Why is it called a jailbreak when there’s no Cydia?

A. Cydia is not compatible with Apple TV. You can still sideload apps such as Kodi/NitoTV and SSH into your device.

Q. Is NitoTV compatible with Apple TV 4 jailbreak?

A. For those who don’t know NitoTV is the Cydia alternative for Apple TV. It is not compatible with Apple TV 4G jailbreak as of now. It can brick your device permanently.

The developer is working on compatibility and will hopefully release it soon.

Q. Does Mobile Substrate run on tvOS?

A. Yes, the 64-bit version will run.

Q. Why you should not override system binaries?

A. Overriding system binaries can brick your device permanently. When your Apple TV reboots, it is no longer in jailbroken state. So any binaries you add will carry no signature and will get roasted by AppleMobileFileIntegrity.
